Probably the most significant symptom of Diabetes I experienced before my diagnosis was extreme weight loss.

I don’t know for sure how much I weighed before Diabetes took hold, but it would have been somewhere around the 14st 7ibs mark, which means I lost something like two stones in about two months.

At one point, between two GP appointments one week apart I lost 7lbs alone, taking me down to 12st 5lb. I then stabilised at around 12st 7/8lbs. It was the key reason my GP was concerned at first that I might be Type 1 rather than Type 2.

Update: 18th May 2013

I now weigh 11st 7lb, about 73kg. My weight has been fairly stable at this level for some time, with only a minor blip back in April when a week’s holiday in Cornwall saw me put on about 5lbs. My diet now is fairly consistent and, combined with regular cycling, has led to a drop of a further stone since my diagnosis. As you can see from the chart below, I am now in the ‘normal’ BMI range. You can see an explanation of ‘old’ versus ‘new’ BMI readings here.
