Cycling for diabetes

GiantI got back into cycling in 2007 having not ridden a bike since my teenage years. Now I am taking it even more seriously as a way of keeping fit and also to raise money for the charity Diabetes UK.

I have two bikes – a Specialized Sirrus Elite hybrid for commuting and a Giant Defy 1 road bike. My Sirrus Elite is the workhorse I use to commute to Reading Station during the week.

The Giant Defy is my road bike and the one I rodeCoast to Coast on in August 2013. I am hoping to complete JOGLE (John O’Groats to Land’s End) on it in June 2015.

For the biking geeks amongst you, the spec for my Giant Defy 1 is:

Shifters Shimano 105
Front Derailleur Shimano 105
Rear Derailleur Shimano 105
Brakes Tektro TK-R540 Giant Specific, Dual Pivot
Brake Levers Shimano 105
Cassette Shimano Tiagra 12×28, 10-Speed
Chain KMC X10
Crankset Shimano R565, 34/50
